Just returned from a quick half term break with my partner and parents. The weather was hot and sunny all week, the restaurants are good and affordable and the apartment was an ideal base for both beaches and the city of Porto. Great holiday and would definitely return to this incredibly well-priced and huge apartment; perfect location and very homely! Location – Less than 5 minutes walk from Granja train station which is itself less than 30 minutes from the centre of Porto. This itself is brilliant, as the apartment is so close to the beach, under 5 minutes walk away; and the city of Porto, which I was blown away by, is just one train journey away for £1.50. The beach in Granja is gorgeous, with a boardwalk running down to the next town, Espinho, which is great for a walk. Also, loads of bars and restaurants within 5 minutes of the apartment. Facilities – Huge apartment! We were surprised by how spacious it was, huge hallway with three good sized bedrooms, a massive living room and decent kitchen. The apartment has a really nice light to it too, feels very Mediterranean! Didn’t cook anything as cafes and restaurants everywhere, but pans, plates, pots etc in cupboard. Beds – Double bed comfortable, never tried single beds but my parents said they were good. Area – Granja is a great little town with loads of good and very affordable cafes and restaurants (Snopao opposite serves until 1am and opens at 7am – great cakes for breakfast). The coast is spectacular here, crystal clear water and miles of beach. Porto is a great city, and trains run every 15-20mins until early hours. The apartment is literally 5 minutes away from both the station and the beach.
First visit to Portugal and an apartment so wasn’t sure what to except. Needn’t have worried. Apartment is spacious (five of us went – 3 adults and 2 children) clean and well equipped with everything you need to make a holiday enjoyable (wifi great for keeping the children entertained), shower excellent and in a location, which makes it really easy to discover Portugal. Didn’t cook once, especially with Snopao across the road with its excellent food and great value for money, we had breakfast there every morning! O Escuteiro (across road) was a bit more expensive but excellent food and Sarah was really helpful. Christina’s down the road also serves lovely Portuguese food too and restaurants in the fisherman’s quarters in Espinho were also great value for money. Walk into Espinho along the boardwalk is lovely (takes about 30-40 minutes) but equally easy to catch the train as the ticket machine has a button which translates into English. It’s well worth walking to Aguda and Mirimar too where the beaches were lovely. The pool in Granja (salt water pool) is worth a visit, although you need to get there early, we queued for an hour in the afternoon and gave up, as because everyone is allocated a sunbed, someone needs to leave before you can get in! Porto is also easy to reach by train and well worth taking a boat tour, cable car ride and venicular train. Excellent holiday.
Second family visit to the apartment which is spacious, clean, well maintained and serviced. Lack of outdoor space is not an issue, even though we are an outdoor family as the area has lots to meet your needs and the bakery cafe and restaurant across the road allow outdoor living as if at home. The nation as a whole are extremely helpful and friendly, the local shops and dining even more so. Train services are clean, reliable and run regularly for more or less 20 hours a day so you can travel to where ever easily even without a car. Esphino, Aguda and Miramar locally and Porto, Aveiro, Guirmareaes all well worth the visit (check my spellings!). Love this country and the people. Owner and local contact very helpful before, during and after the stay.
This apartment is more of a family home than a holiday apartment. It has all the facilities you need to relax and enjoy your holiday. Well situated for the beach, local restaurants and the train, which is 4 minutes away and so cheap it makes travelling around the area really easy. The beach at Granja is good and the facilities at Espinho beach (football and volleyball) make it worth the extra distance to travel. Restaurants that we loved include O Escuteiro (across the road), Ciao Bella (Aguda) and Snopao (both for value meals and daily bread). Porto is well worth visiting, especially the Ribeira district (by the river) and the football stadium. This was our first ever holiday in Portugal and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Fantastic apartment, clean, roomy, everything you could ever need, proper home from home. You could see the fantastic sea from the apartment, a swimming pool is very nearby. Restaurants are very close – fabulous food – very cheap alcohol. The only holiday I’ve been on where I’ve brought money back! There are towns to the right and the left, just a short train ride away if you want more bustle. Staying in this accomodation means you can have both peace and quiet and more life when the mood takes you. What more could you want from a holiday…
We had a fabulous holiday staying in Granja again. Amazing beaches! Fabulous food! Loads to do and see. Porto is a must and so is a boat trip once you are there. Loved the apartment. It has everything we needed – home from home. Until next time beautiful Portugal!
We have enjoyed our second visit to this lovely apartment and once again we had a fantastic time. With so much to see and do in the surrounding areas, Granja is the perfect location. We enjoyed many relaxing days on the local beach and several busy days exploring nearby Porto. The locals are so lovely and kind and will always help you out. We enjoyed both the cafe and restaurant across from the apartment (the restaurant now has an english menu) at such affordable prices! We were really happy to see how much busier nearby Esphino was this year which shows how the popularity of the area is growing. The owner is really helpful and will ensure you have everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. A must visit!
A lovely holiday apartment, 3 bedroom, with kitchen and lounge, 2nd floor, within 100m of local train station, and 200m from beach. Plenty of eateries nearby, fantastic coastline, with boardwalks north and South. 20 minute train to Porto, or 40m to the lovely Aveiro. Well recommended, a hidden gem!
One of the great joys of this apartment is it’s location. Everything, and everywhere we wanted to visit is easily accessible, either by walking or short train journeys. The large public pool at Granja is situated on the beach and is less that a 5 minute walk away. Directly opposite the apartment is a great place for coffee, cakes and light meals; and there are 2 mini supermarkets, one opposite, one down the street. The train station is just around the corner and has regular trains to stops along the coast, including Espinho – 5 mins, and beautiful Porto, about 15 mins. The fares are inexpensive and the train system easy to use, even if you don’t speak Portugese. The apartment itself has everything you will need. Fully equipped kitchen, TV and WiFi (if you get time), comfortable bedrooms and living space. In addition, it’s kept spotlessly clean and there are balconies to let in the sunshine and dry your wet beach gear! Because the apartment and location are so user friendly, it makes for a very relaxing holiday. We jumped on the train numerous times to visit Porto and soak up the city’s wonderful atmosphere and culture. It seems that around every corner there is something wonderful to see and experience. We also strolled the boardwalk from Granja to Miramar, to see the beautiful ‘Chapel on the beach’, and made numerous trips to Espinho to enjoy the beach and to eat! Fantastic, inexpensive restaurants here. This apartment definitely felt like a home from home. I should also mention that the people in this area are extremely helpful and friendly. Not everyone speaks English, and I don’t speak Portugese, but everyone made such an effort to communicate with us and meet our needs. Truly a wonderful experience.
Family holiday with three children aged 6, 10 & 14. The accomodation provided ample space and was both clean and well equiped. The location is quiet but has good amenities and the local people were very friendly and helpful, especially with the language. It is well placed to eat in or eat out. The local beach is a short stroll away and the easy to use trains at the local station open up a wide variety or other places to see even without a car. The pace of life is relaxed and our family would definately plan to revisit. I would highly recommend this appartment.
This is our third stay at Granja Beach Apartment and we had yet another great holiday here. We had some fabulous days on the beaches, visited Porto on the train, ate in some fantastic restaurants, had some great walks along the boardwalk and spent a few days at the local swimming pools. We always recommend Granja Beach to our friends as it’s such a lovely and affordable place to holiday.
Granja Beach is a fantastic apartment with everything you need for a perfect stay. There was plenty of room for 6 adults and we had an extremely comfortable and relaxing holiday. The area is lovely and very peaceful. The apartment is surrounded by a great café, restaurant and shops, selling food and drink at amazingly low prices. The lovely beach is a very short walk away and we also used the outdoor pool which was great. The train station is close by enabling trips into Porto or Esphino which we did several times. We really enjoyed strolling along the beach board walks and were able to visit the beautiful Aguda and Miramar. We had an amazing time and we will definitely be booking again next year. Thank you for a wonderful stay and for helping us arrange our holiday 🙂
This spacious appartment is well equipped and ideally situated both for beach and surf lovers and for travelling around and visiting places of interest like Porto ( easy to reach by train, the station is about 5 minutes walk from the apartment), the Doro valley, Coimbra.. The owner Rachel is very friendly and helpful, providing any information you might need and doing her best to make your stay the best ever. She wa also very helpful at organising our arrival in Granja.
Well I have to say I was impressed from the very beginning of our holiday. Great service and taxi from airport to the apartment. I couldn’t get over how big it was for the money. Very spacious and clean. I slept in the smaller of the 3 rooms but the built in cupboards allowed me to maximise the space in the room. The apartment was close to a small retail area which had a cafe, mini market, a restaurant and gym. My fave place for good quality low cost food was Snopao, the cafe. Nice cakes and lunches! The apartment is close to the train links and popular destinations like Espinho (although you can walk on the beach) or Porto. The beach was gorgeous and only five mins away. The pool was under ten mins walk. I loved this holiday. The apartment was great value, homely and well presented. I’ll be booking again and recommending to my friends and family.
The apartment in Granja is well equipped and beautifully clean. An easy walk to miles of beautiful beaches, Even in November there is a wide selection of authentic cafes bars and restaurants close by. Only 5 minutes walk to the train station which takes you into beautiful Porto in one direction and Espinho the other direction. Granja and its surrounding area is a quiet but well maintained place with a huge choice of both local and international food. In particular the choice of fresh fish is something not to be missed.
Don’t pass this one by! This property is a real gem of a find. I have been three times (last year most recent). It’s clearly a well-cared for place that’s very clean and fresh. Two bathrooms is a major plus, it has a very spacious feel to it. I love the view of the monastery. The surrounding area gives you a feel for the real Portugal; it has an air and atmosphere of tradition… I personally don’t want to be surrounded by Brits when I’m on holiday and you don’t tend to get loads of them here. You are surrounded everywhere by Portuguese coffee culture – the coffee and cakes are great. Communication isn’t generally a problem as many of the Portuguese people speak a good level of English. The property is very convenient for train travel. I love the nearby beaches, the waves are quite compelling and the sunsets over the ocean will take your breath away… Take your camera, I’ve got some great shots that I’m getting put onto canvass, they’re that good! The property is excellent value for money and, as another reviewer commented, you will be surprised at how cheap it is to eat out locally. I will definitely be returning.
Had a great relaxing long weekend here, the apartment was very clean and well kept. It was also very easy to get to using the train from Porto which only cost a couple of euros, The weather was great and we walked on unspoilt beaches and along the board walk that goes for miles. The food was exceptional every where we went and very cheap. At the nearby super market two euro s gets you a good bottle of wine and be sure to frequent the coffee bar and sample a coffee and a natter( a must try snack) for one euro. Across the road from the apartment is patisserie that is great for rolling out of bed and nipping for breakfast. As the train was so easy to use we had a night out in Porto at a fantastic Brazilian restaurant that Rachel the owner had recommended to us, excellent. On the whole we had a great stay here and pleasantly surprised to return home with spending money left. SUPERB THANK YOU look forward to staying again.
From the beginning the owners were very helpful and accommodating. They passed on a vast amount of useful information about the area, things to do and see and good places to eat. Communication with the owners was excellent and any queries we had were dealt with immediately. The apartment was extremely clean and very welcoming, we felt immediately at home. The apartment had everything we required and more than we expected. The kitchen was fully equipped and on the occasions we ate in, had everything we needed to cook substantial meals. The bedrooms were a good size with plenty of storage space, the beds were comfy and clean and views from the master bedroom of the monastery gardens were particularly picturesque. Our boys (13 and 8) were made up with the TV and Xbox set up and were also able to watch some DVD’s they brought from home. We felt the apartment was ideally placed; a few minutes walk from the train station, 5 minutes walk to the beach, local swimming pool and fantastic boardwalk that runs all along the coast. We ate nearly everyday in the little cafe bar across the road called Snopau. The prices were extremely reasonable and the food fabulous quality. We had a car during our stay which was handy for the supermarket trips etc but a car is not necessary given the excellent and cheap train service minutes away and boardwalk that links all the resorts. We used the train to go to Porto to watch a football match and found it efficient and easy to use. When we needed assistance everyone we asked was helpful and friendly, (something we noted about all the Portuguese people we came across during our holiday, lovely people!). Porto is a great place with many things to do and see and definitely a city we’d like to explore more. We spent a lot of time in Espinho, which is the main resort in the area. It had great beaches, huge waves and so many eating places to choose from, we were spoiled for choice each day. We visited numerous other beach resorts such as Aguda and Miramar, which we walked to along the boardwalk from the apartment and each place had something different to offer. We loved the authenticity of it all. This holiday was one of the best we have had and we will be booking the apartment again in the near future.
A magnificent apartment set about 10 minute walk from the town of Alvor or the beach. The apartment is extremely clean, quiet and well equipped. The pool area is wonderful and gets the sun all day long. It makes a change not to fight for a sun bed. Alvor is beautiful fishing town with a marina and abundance of restaurants and bars. The fish and seafood is magnificent. There is a lovely board walk that takes you along the beach to the marina. I would totally recommend a stay in the delightful apartment and the owner Rachel is helpful and quick to respond to any questions and queries.
Spent a very enjoyable week in this lovely apartment in Alvor. Four adults, so two on the very comfortable sofa bed and two in the bedroom. Plenty of space for four people and a large balcony area that was a real bonus. The kitchen is well equipped if you feel like cooking but if not Alvor with all its bars and restaurants is a short walk away. The pool was great to relax in and to cool off. Plenty of parking space outside if you have a car. Highly recommended.
Stayed for 1 week with my partner and 9 yr old son. Lovely apartment, very clean and had everything we needed. Pool also lovely. 10 mins to beach and shops so a perfect holiday. Have already booked again for July 2018!
